Learn about Young Carers

The Late Crew is a book about young carers (and aliens, don't forget the aliens)!

A young carer is a young person who helps support a friend or family member with an illness, disability, mental health issue or addiction.

There's lots of ways this support can look. It might be practical support, with tasks like making food, housework and doing the shopping. It can be physical care, like helping someone get dressed. It can be emotional support, such as talking to them when distressed.

For example, Tyler in the book is a young carer. He supports his mum with chronic fatigue by helping out with the housework and shopping. He also supports his autistic younger brother Levi by helping out with his daily routines, and using counting techniques if Levi gets overwhelmed by loud sounds.

If you'd like to learn more about young carers, the Carers Trust have a great page here. At the bottom of that page, there is information around some of the support available for young carers, and links to find and contact your local carers service - which is really useful way to access support for young carers and families.
